Is it Sweat or is it Perspiration?
I was once told that a lady doesn't sweat, she perspires. Deodorants tout their ability to be antiperspirant. But how do we really differentiate?
Well, I am here to tell you that if you live in the Deep South, you sweat. Yes, and it doesn't matter which sex you are either. The moisture hangs in the air like a living thing. Sometimes when you walk outside, the blast is so hot, you would swear you just stepped into a sauna. I remember when I was living in Baton Route, LA, that it was 80 degrees on April 15th, and 100 percent humidity without a cloud in the sky. That's when I decided to leave BR and move back to SC!
A little moisture on your forehead might be perspiration. My husband could be classified as a perspirer. He can be out in the hot sun at noon and he just gets a little wet in the face. He would have to be out there all day in the heat before he would actually perspire enough to call it sweat.
I know a lot of people like that and some that I've never seen "break a sweat". Some people always look cool, but when you're like me and the water pours off of you, you sweat. I often say that I "sweat playing checkers", a cliche' I learned from an ex-husband long ago. And that's no joke. I sweat vacuuming, washing the dog, sweeping the floor, sewing, you name it! I sweat in the winter, spring, fall and especially the summer. Actually it would be a contest between me and my brother as to who gets wet the fastest, so maybe it's a family thing. Although I don't remember seeing my mother sweat. She's one of those who always look cool. Daddy did, but only when he was really working hard out in the heat.
Don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with me. I've heard there is a disease that causes one to sweat profusely, but I don't suffer from that. I can sit at my desk and work, or watch TV, cook, etc without sweating. I can actually ride my tractor to cut the fields and not really sweat too badly once I'm out in the heat long enough. Maybe I'm just spoiled from the air conditioning. But I ALWAYS sweat when I go out into this heat and humidity.
So come on down and visit us in the Deep South, just remember to bring a "sweat rag" with you. You're gonna need it!
