Winter and Spring Have Come and Gone
Well, it's been a while and life has moved on. Rebecca is still fighting the monster growing in her head, but we are still ten steps ahead. Although she had to withdraw from SCAD, she remains as sweet as ever and is not tired of treatment. Hospice has starting coming to the house and helping with bathing, giving IV fluids etc. She eats very well if we prepare food, snacks, beverages for her, but doesn't have an appetite to motivate her to fix herself anything. The doctor added a drug called CPT11 to the IV infusion along with the Avastin and it really kicked her butt this last time. We are hoping for less side effects this coming week.
I made the decision in late 2012 to move my office from the old, dusty, musty, molding old house in which I had worked for Glenn. I incorporated and moved into a small office, still staying in Holly Hill. We (mostly Frank) put a lot of work into making it the pleasingly bright place to work we hope it would be. We made it through another successful tax season and are enjoying the slower pace.
Having a little more time on my hands to pursue things other than work and housework, I've been able to spend more time with my mother who is now officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She is not suffering pain, except for headaches caused by the temporal arteritis, but has serious memory lapses and confusion. My brother stays with her most all of the time because I still have to work and bringing her to my house to stay isn't an option. It really throws her emotional state into a tailspin and she constantly asks to go home. So I go and stay with her when I can, giving John a much needed break (hopefully) every week.
It's hard to have to choose which one gets my time and help and still maintain a home life with husband and pets. I can't help but feel I am letting someone down every day. Whether it's not being able to do enough for Julianne, Rebecca, Frank, Mother or John or the lack of time and devotion I can give my sweet corgi, Tuesday.
We had a great cool spring and now the heat and humidity have hit us full force. But I can't complain when I see people homeless because of flooding and all the other tragedies that have happened this year.
Frank built a new workshop/garage for himself . Now I have the main garage almost to myself and we can park cars in there. And we had a drive poured attached to the house garage. Only took 8.5 years! Oh well.
Gardening has not been an option due to lack of time and bad back. But we do have some hanging baskets, The begonias and aloe from last year have come back. My tea olive plants are now trees and completely shade the back porch. I'm told most people have trouble growing tea olives but that is one plant with which I have always had success. The fragrance when they are in bloom is completely intoxicating.
My timber trees are growing fast and need pruning. And the centipede grass we seeded in some years ago is still spreading and a pleasure to cut. We have tried to fill in holes so that mowing is not such a bumpy ride, but still have places where we buried trees when we cleared the land and now those stumps et all are rotting and forming big holes. Still trying to decide what native plants we will leave. I like the sweet shrubs and the tall grasses along the edge of the forest. I had to give Frank a lecture about NOT cutting the field where the Maypops (Purple Passion Flowers) grow. He got a finish cutter for the tractor and was ready to cut anything and everything! LOL!
We have hens and a rooster again and were enjoying fresh eggs until the girls decided to "set". We're not sure if we are going to have babies since this is their first time setting, but we decided to give them their space and see what happens. It would be nice to see young chicks again!
Yep, life goes on and so must we.
Postscript to today's blog: Julianne just called and said we have six baby chicks! Can't wait to get home and see what else is happening with them!
